Test-Drive Meme: September 2012

This meme serves as a practice ground for both new and old players of Somarium to both get used to voicetest characters they may choose to play in the upcoming application cycle. Potential applicants are more than welcome to join in on the fun. It works like any open meme and the rules are simple.

1. Looks like the Ob Holm bazaar is having a sale. There's a few interesting trinkets here and there but maybe you need a little help deciding what to buy.

2. The dreamgate isn't accessible for the return trip back from Endouto to Ob Holm so it looks like you're stuck for a couple of days. Maybe it's time you gather some supplies or explore the area.

3. Someone just stole something off of you! Quick! Call for help or chase after them!

4. You know what's a good thing about that resort in Ob Holm? It's got a pretty cool oasis to chill at. Talk about a five star vacation.

5. Somehow you're taking a trip on Cid's airship over the desert. Whether to Somarium, Ob Holm or Endouto is up to you!

6. Reroll or go crazy and make something up!

Jason Walsh || The Unusuals

Jason Walsh was new to this place, and he certainly had no idea what was going on. He figured he drank way too much with Beaumont the night before again. He was partially thankful he didn't wake up in bed with Alvarez again. Even thinking about it sent a shiver through him. Maybe it was that burning drug lab that caused such a hallucinogenic dream. He finds himself at a local bazaar, which really even in a drug induced dream he questions. He does stop to look at a few things.

Clint was still dealing with his cast. He'd been counting down the days until it would come off but at least he could get out and about now. Most of his other injuries were healed by this point and it wasn't like the cast was on his leg. He needed to get out too, things were WAY too cramped around here. A breath of fresh air after hanging around the medical facilities would do him some good.

And that's really how he'd found himself roaming the bazaar. Not really window shopping but just enjoying the change of scenery. He passed by one booth that seemed to be selling mirrors and charms. At first he didn't think anything of the body double (because, hey, mirrors) but then he realized that the reflection was wrong because it didn't have a cast and his "mirror image" was facing the wrong way.

Clint turned to look and, sure enough, there was some with his face checking out items in a nearby booth. Now, normally this would be cause for panic. However, Clint had already had enough experience in this dream world with body doubles (Steve had one, so did Tony). It was probably only a matter of time...and sure enough.

Now the real question became should he say something and freak the other guy out or just follow him for a bit.

Of course he tried to search for her - but honestly, it did not take him much time to realize he is no longer in Regalo... or Italy. He was not too pleased to find out that he will not find any familiar faces here however.

The man stops to look at the sale when he reaches the bazaar. His gaze wanders from one trinket to another.

Scampering around like a monkey was some green kid with some wicked awesome sideburns. His tail curled around a pipe as he peeked around the corners. It appears he was looking for something or maybe keeping a look out to be sure he wouldn't get in trouble.]

[She's hugging her knees on a towel at the beach. This new outfit - just shorts and a tank top with a veiled hat - makes her feel exposed and lounging in public is weird for her.]

[ Oh dear, this guy is making obvious eyes at Yvaine, even if he seems nice enough. Well, he is. Sorta. But for some reason the shirt he's wearing is just slashed down the middle and his hair is tied up in a... bandanna scarf? It keeps the sand out of his face, but the colors are a bit garish. ]

[Leo wasn't sure what was going on anymore. Last thing he remembered what being on the Argo II, then he was in some desert resort place. It was all too weird, but it wouldn't be the first time weird things happened. And he knew exactly what to do:

Pretend like he knew what was going on.

So he wandered a bit, trying to hide how unsure he was about this, when he stumbled across the bazaar. And honestly, he couldn't help but pause, his mind flickering back to the shopping mall with Medea and pretty much...every strange event that had happened to him in the past, well, several months.]

Let me guess. Someone's gonna try and kill me.

[ don't mind dany staring at a speaking dragon, before she talks down some of the merchants from throwing it at him further. her voice is commanding because she has no clue what the shit is going on but that is a dragon. she's going to be walking over with drogon on her shoulder, the other two in her arms. ]

[ him stealing something? no, they're not in an operating room! instead, he's outside. however, his dove is another story because archimedes is a naughty little thing; it's his bird that stole something, most probably rather shiny. that's why when he runs away with the item in his tiny little claws, medic raises a brow and looks at it. ]

Archimedes, what have I told you? If you are going to pick up items for yourself, make sure it's lovely. [ because that's clearly what's important. he holds the item with two fingers. ] Ach, this looks like a toy.

There is now a somewhat large dragon in the oasis who seems to be sunning himself instead of taking to the shade. He had been looking at the bazaar before, and spoke with another one of his kind, before taking off and looking for a place from which to drink.

After having had his fill of that sweet-tasting, thirst-quenching water, he has taken it upon himself to rest and get as much warmth of the sun as he can.

He is comfortably resting on the ground, wings folded and legs neatly tucked beneath him. All safe for his tail, which is just languidly swishing about from side-to-side in the air.

Dare you approach him?

A Khaleesi dares.
Daenerys walks quietly towards him, quiet, respectful steps, though she does not slouch, or show traces of her fear. She has spoken to another, and perhaps this one can also speak.

Drogon hisses from her shoulder, for he is used to being the largest and this one is quite larger than her fierce child. Viserion blinks sleepily from her arms and Rhaegal flies ahead, circling above them before Dany stops.

I feel closer to dragons than I would even my own people. I have a woman's body, but I am a dragon even so. The same hot blood runs in my veins.

Without much sign of fear, Dany kneels and fills her own casket with water, glad she had some with her when she arrived. Hearing all the people in the market was not always easy, she had to carry water from time to time, not to mention that outfit she had to wear..

Now with Drogo here, she settles for some of her old clothing, the leather and tough hide of a Dothraki Khaleesi, necklaces of bone. To her it means comfort.

"You are beautiful." She says at last, glancing over with a small smile. "My children are jealous of your size. They are eager to grow themselves."

Tali'Zorah vas Normandy | Mass Effect (3)

[The best part about the desert oasis isn't the oasis, but the desert itself. Tali seems to be at ease when she's watching it, the winds and how alive it is, even for a desert, something that's supposed to be lacking in life. As a result, there's an alien in an envirosuit standing at some sort of perfect overlook in Ob Holm, facing out to the desert, and apparently thinking out loud.]

This isn't so bad...

[If someone were to happen to pass by an alleyway, they would notice an attractive woman being cornered by a gang of thieves. From appearances alone, it's clear that she has a huge disadvantage against the group but what people don't know is that she had been the one to steal something from them.

She didn't make mistakes so they hadn't realized she had taken something from them (yet) but they had noticed her because of the clothes she was wearing and had attempted to take something from her in return. Well...that was a mistake and she's looking a little less than pleased. But for the time being, she's biding her time and weighing her actions - why don't you jump in and try be her knight in shining armor?]

Jason was simply walking around exploring a bit. When he came upon a woman being corned by a gang he just couldn't walk away. He felt the need to step in and headed that way. "Hey, you should leave the lady be."

[ Lady Melisandre is visiting the oasis, kneeling beside a pool of clear water. the sand is hot beneath her knees, and the midday sun beats down over her, but she hardly feels either. her body is constantly warm, and she finds a little extra heat pleasant rather than taxing--yet still she wears a shroud wrapped about her head, to keep the sun from her hair.

in contrast, cool water runs through her fingers. the sleeves of her simple red gown are trailing in the water, becoming soaked through, but that is no matter. they will soon dry.

but rather than raising her cupped hands to her lips, as might be expected, she simply lets the water drain slowly through her fingers. it has been years since she has lived in a place so warm and arid; she left Asshai so long ago, but cannot help but bring her youth there to mind now. ]

[ if only they had had an oasis in the red waste. vaes tolorro had taken too long and doreah had been lost along with several other dothraki, old and young. the dragon does not forget what is taken from her. just the same, daenerys goes to the oasis after a trek around ob holm, without ser barristan or her husband at her side. there are times when a queen must be alone, she has learned, or rather it is safer that way.

the oasis' water looks sweet and cool, and she only carries drogon on her shoulder now. viserion sleeps in one of the boxes she had found in the markets while rhaegal takes to the balcony of their room, most likely within her husband's sight.

the two dragons note the red lady with a curious eye, as daenerys walks towards the water, holding her casket. ]

It is peaceful here.

[ it's said lightly. who knows where this woman is from but she seems different somehow, something about her.. ]

Snow White || Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

[Snow White didn't entirely understand the terrain she was currently in at the moment. She had, in her life, never been in a desert before and so the princess instantly sought out the shade of one of the awnings of the bazaar. So many people! She hadn't seen so many in... well ever!

She looked all around.]

Excuse me [She stopped the passerby.] but could you tell me where I am?

[Dreams. Like this Josh hasn't had enough of those. Being trapped in a dreamworld generally sucks, more so when you think you've escaped one already.

So, this Joshua is going to casually walk around, looking through the shops in idle curiosity. HE'S not about to betray how mildly annoyed he is by this recent turn of events. Feckin' dreams.]

[Joshua's in for surprise. He may spot a familiar-looking girl window shopping at that very same moment. Shiki looks like she was enjoying herself, looking through the merchandise and chatting up the merchants when she sees a piece that she likes (oh, and haggling. Shiki loves haggling.).]

[After running away from Kingslanding, Sansa finds herself in a strange desert city. She does not know how she got there, or how can she go back home. But anything is good as long as she is away from King Joffrey and his mother.

While looking for a place to stay, she finds her way at the bazaar. Even though she has no money at the moment, she can't help but take a look at the trinkets that are being sold there.

She sighs, wishing she could be back in Winterfell. Back to before King Robert had ever visited and asked her father to become the Hang of the King...]

[Arya was doing her usual people watching, standing off from the streets, blending in. She was beginning to settle into Ob Holm well enough. It hadn't been long, but it hadn't been terrible either.

She was watching people go by, when she saw her. she would recognize the Tully red hair no matter the circumstances. It had been so long. She'd thought her dead, like their brothers. It was like Robb and Jon had both told her, that there was always the possibility their family could be reunited here. She'd told her father that no matter how angry she got at Sansa, she still loved her - still wanted to protect her. Who knows what Joffrey and Cersei had done to her without their family there.

Why was she standing motionless? Why wasn't she running to her? Would hugging her be too odd? Probably. Gods it had been too long.

Springing to her feet, she sprints after her, Needle bouncing lightly at her hip as she runs.]

[Rory has been busy browsing the books she had chanced upon while walking around the bazaar. She was minding her own business when a pickpocket decided to make her his next target.

The problem was... he still wasn't very good at being stealthy and subtle. Rory wasn't distracted enough and he tried to take her whole book bag. She knew she wasn't particularly strong but Rory was stubborn as hell. A Gilmore trait, you see.]

My bag--Hey! [In a last ditch effort, the thief takes out a knife from his pocket, cutting the strap and making a run for it.]

He took my bag!

[Directing this to the pickpocket:] Fagin's disappointed in you, Dodger!

Not so sure Oliver Twist is the best thing to relate to in this instance. Seems kind of depressing.

[Wanting to learn more about this strange world he recently found himself in, Hope is now standing in front of a large window on Cid's airship en route to Somarium. He watches the vast dessert stretch past him as the ship travels to it's destination with eyes filled with both disbelief and fascination. Considering how he only just arrived a few days ago, he looks like a man with quite a bit on his mind....

It was cute, if anything and while he almost looked bored, he was actually quite distracted with seeing if there was anything he could get for Lucy while he was here.

Even if he had no clue to how or why he'd ended up here on his own without her anywhere to be seen. ]

[EDI is wandering the area, not to gather anything particularly important, just some information on her new setting. She isn't programmed with the knowledge of this place, nor is she linked into any kind of database. All of her curiosity and drive to learn about Ob Holm has to be sated on foot, and luckily she has the capacity now to do just that.

She pauses infront of a bazaar, the trinkets and "for sale" signage catching her attention. These pieces are old enough to be considered historic in her mechanical eyes. Having never come into contact with something so... charmingly archaic before, she lifts a pendant from the table and spins it before her eyes, everything about it taken in and analyzed to the smallest detail.]

[You look new - oh wait she can't say that, everyone's relatively new to Ob Holm. Well, except the locals, and you don't seem to be one.]

Things like this are certainly new, aren't they?

[Almost everything he'd run into was different from Battleworld but the oasis was his favorite so far. There were beaches back home but none as nice as this. And right now there's a very tall green guy grinning as he looks over the water.]

[Better watch where you tread in the bazaar today. Walk through just the wrong part and you'll feel a small hand shoot out of nowhere and grab on to your ankle.]

[...! When she feels something snatch her angle, Noel instantly freezes, trying her best to contain a high-pitched scream. However, all her effort is lost when she hears that voice. GHOST?!]

[Seeing a girl made almost entirely out of metal may be surprising to a few, but at the moment Labrys didn't mind her appearance. She recently discovered the joys of shopping, but that moment of happiness is cut short when a nearby petty thief snatches the parcel from her hands. Understandably, she gets pissed.]

Hey, give that back! You ain't goin' anywhere!

[With those words, she raises a fist that quickly propels itself off her arm. Turns out that her hand is attached to a very long chain, which wraps itself around the thief. With a stern expression, she pulls the thief back towards her, and takes back the parcel once he gets close enough.]

Listen, ya better stop going round takin' things that ain't yours. Mess with the wrong person, and you'll get hurt.

[With that lecture, she releases the thief and gives him a light shove forward.]

Now, scram! I'm lettin' ya off easy this time, but I better not see you stealin' stuff again.

[As she watches the thief scurry away in fear, realization dawns upon her.]

Whoops, I've done it again... [She really needs to stop acting like a Student Council President when she actually isn't...]

[Rise had been around Somarium for too long to be surprised by the girls appearance. She's more surprised with the way the girl(?) handled things with the thief.]
